“Very happy we did this day tour to Rotterdam and Delft. We've seen a lot of both during this tour and we loved the boat ride. Thanks again. John and Josephine.”

“We did the Delft, Royal Delft, and Kinderjik tours with Robin. He was so knowledgeable and very funny. You can tell he enjoys what he does. We saw the beautiful town of Delft and enjoyed the local culture followed by a trip to the Royal Delft factory and a visit to the windmills. Wonderful day, highly recommend!”

“Tristan provided a wonderful walking tour of Delft. He brought an immense background of knowledge to our conversations. He had numerous anecdotes about history and architecture of the city, and was also a very interesting person, having lived in many parts of the world. We highly recommend this tour with Tristan.”

What to expect

1

The Markt and the statue of Hugo Grotius

The tour begins at the statue of Hugo Grotius on Delft's Markt, in front of the New Church. Your guide sets the scene for the Dutch Golden Age here, and this is also the moment to say if anyone in the group needs a slower route or extra breaks.

Meeting point: The statue of Hugo Grotius on the Markt, in front of the New Church. You can also choose a custom starting location. Just add it as a comment when you book.

2

The New Church and the city hall

A look at the Gothic New Church, where the Dutch royal family is buried and whose tower is one of the tallest in the country, and at the Renaissance city hall directly across the square, with the stories behind both.

3

Along the canals to the Old Church

A walk through Delft's quieter canal streets to the Old Church, with its famously leaning tower, resting place of Johannes Vermeer, and the story of Delft's Golden Age as a painting and pottery town.

4

The Prinsenhof and William of Orange

The former residence of William of Orange, and the site of his assassination in 1584, one of the more dramatic turning points in Dutch history. The bullet holes are still in the wall.

5

The Water Board building

The heraldic shields on the Gemeenlandshuis facade are easy to walk straight past without a guide to explain what they are actually telling you about who ran this part of Holland, and how.

6

The historic streets and former monasteries

The tour winds down through quieter canals and former monastery grounds, with time for questions and, if the group wants it, recommendations for lunch or a visit to the Royal Delft factory afterward.

Frequently asked questions

Where exactly does the tour start?

At the statue of Hugo Grotius on the Markt, in front of the New Church. If you'd rather start somewhere else in the city center, such as your hotel, just add it as a booking comment and your guide will meet you there instead.

Is this really a private tour, or will we be grouped with other travelers?

Private means private, you book the guide for your group only, up to 20 people. Nobody else is added to your tour.

Can the tour start at a different time than what's listed online?

Yes. Add your preferred time in the booking comments, or contact us directly, and we'll adjust the guide's schedule.

Is the tour suitable for children or guests with limited mobility?

Yes to both. The route is flat and the pace is set by your group, so guides adjust naturally for families and for anyone who needs to go slower.

Can this be combined with a visit to Royal Delft?

Yes, many groups add a self-guided visit to the Royal Delft pottery factory after the walking tour. Mention it when booking and your guide can point you in the right direction to finish there.

Can I be picked up and dropped off in another city?

Yes. We offer paid pick-up and drop-off within roughly 100 km (62 mi) of the tour's meeting point, which covers Amsterdam and most of the Randstad. You can add this during the booking checkout, or book it separately, before your tour date. For longer distances, contact us for a quote.

How can I pay for my tour?

You can pay securely online during checkout with Apple Pay, Google Pay, credit or debit card, iDEAL, Bancontact or Sofort. Prices are listed in euros; your bank converts the amount automatically if you're paying from abroad.
