Why visit Amsterdam
An hour is not enough to see the Rijksmuseum. It is exactly enough to understand part of it, which is a better use of the time.
Your private guide meets you at the museum and takes you to a selected group of works rather than marching the full floor plan. For most groups that means the Gallery of Honour and the seventeenth century: Rembrandt's Night Watch and the questions people never think to ask about it, Vermeer's small, quiet interiors, Frans Hals, and the still lifes that look decorative until someone explains what the objects in them cost and where they came from.
Your guide sets the paintings in the country you are standing in. The Dutch Golden Age was built on trade, on the companies that ran it and on the violence that came with it, and the museum itself has spent the last decade rewriting its own labels to say so. That argument is part of the tour rather than an awkward footnote to it.
Groups with other interests get a different hour. The Asian pavilion, the eighteenth and nineteenth-century collections, the ship models and the history galleries all work, and Dutch and Flemish specialists can go deep on a single room. Tell us what you want when you book.

Are museum tickets included?
Not in the €199, but you can add them when you book. We charge the museum’s own price, €25 per adult, with under-18s free, and we do not add anything on top. You are also welcome to buy your own timed entry directly from the Rijksmuseum instead.
Where exactly do we meet?
At the museum entrance on Museumstraat, under the passage that runs through the building. Have your timed ticket ready and allow time for the security queue before your slot.
What times can the tour start?
The museum is open daily from 9am to 5pm, and tours start hourly between 10am and 3pm so the guided hour finishes comfortably before closing.
How many people can join a private Rijksmuseum tour?
Up to twelve guests per guide. That is the museum's own limit for a guided group in its exhibition spaces, and we keep to it throughout for the sake of a tour you can actually hear.
Is one hour long enough?
For a guided introduction, yes, and it is what most groups want. You keep your museum ticket afterwards and can stay as long as you like, which is the usual pattern: an hour guided, then an hour or two on your own with a much better idea of what you are looking at.
Can the tour focus on something other than the Golden Age?
Yes. The Asian pavilion, the nineteenth century, the ship models and the history galleries all work well, and a guide can go deep on a single artist or room. Tell us when you book.
Can you also guide us through the Van Gogh Museum or the Stedelijk?
Those museums set their own rules for external guides, so ask us and we will tell you honestly what is possible rather than promising it upfront.
